Khreschatyk Hotel 2023

History of the legendary hotel in the center of Kyiv – from “Khreschatyk” to “Maidan Palace”

Located in the heart of Kyiv, Maidan Palace Hotel on Khreschatyk has remained a symbol of hospitality and comfort for decades. Since its establishment in 1985, it quickly became popular among visitors to the capital, then known as “Khreschatyk.” The historic building, surrounded by Kyiv’s architectural masterpieces, attracted guests with its convenient location and unique atmosphere. Its history is inseparable from the main street of the city, which is the cultural and historical center of the city. The hotel building, having undergone several stages of reconstruction, serves as a vivid reflection of the changes that have occurred in Kyiv over the centuries.

Khreschatyk Hotel

The area where Maidan Palace Hotel is now located has deep historical roots. In the mid-19th century, a three-story building stood here, built by Andriy Myklashevsky, a representative of an ancient Cossack family, based on the design by the prominent architect Olexander Beretti. This building, adorned with pseudo-Gothic details and an exquisite cast-iron fence, became an important cultural object of Kyiv at the time.

However, over time, the architectural landscape of Khreschatyk underwent significant changes, especially due to the damage caused during the war years. After World War II, the capital’s main street was rebuilt. And after the 1980 Olympics, in 1985, a modern nine-story hotel building named “Khreshchatyk” was built in place of the old houses. It was designed by architects Vadim Ivanovich Hopkalo and Leonid Ivanovich Filenko. This building harmoniously combined elements of modern architecture with classical traditions, becoming one of the symbols of Kyiv’s post-war revival.

The hotel in the center of Kyiv was aptly named after the capital’s main street, embodying hospitality for tourists and business people. During the Soviet period, the “Khreshchatyk” Hotel was popular among guests who valued comfort, a convenient location, and high service levels. Each room in the “Khreschatyk” Hotel stood out for its high comfort and ergonomic design.

Maidan Palace Hotel – rebranding and modernity

In 2012, the hotel underwent major reconstruction, allowing it to become an establishment of European-level hospitality. Even then, guests noted reasonable prices, comfortable rooms, excellent service, and friendly staff, alongside the availability of on-site parking and its advantageous location in the center of the capital.

In 2024, “Khreschatyk” was renamed to “Maidan Palace Hotel.” This decision reflected the renewed vision of the brand and the modern identity of an establishment located near Maidan Nezalezhnosti – the main square of the capital, a place that has become a symbol of freedom and unity in Ukraine.

The establishment has retained its hospitality traditions but has significantly updated its infrastructure. A modern room design, innovative services, a conference hall, and a cozy lobby bar all aim to satisfy guests and are created for business meetings and relaxation.

Today, Maidan Palace Hotel continues the traditions established decades ago. A large-scale modernization is planned following rebranding. Currently, the hotel’s facade has been completely updated using modern technology. Marble tiles and insulation add aesthetic and comfortable substance. The rooms feature elegant and beautiful interior design, equipped with everything necessary for guests’ comfort: climate control, satellite TV, minibar, safe, security system, and other amenities.
